MARIKINA CITY, METRO MANILA – Most commuters find daily traffic at EDSA exhausting yet Paula Pioquinto-Dimaano managed to squeeze some inspiration out of it.
“I commute everyday going home and I never fail to notice the traffic in EDSA. So I thought of making something out of that experience,” Paula says, referring to the “Scribbled” bracelets she sells under her brand Piesa.
The bracelets are made of wires and wrapped with cloth. She can finish a bracelet in about 20 minutes, though depending on how complex the design. These have golden chains to secure it from falling from your wrist; the chains are detachable to so you can wear it how you want it.
Her accessories, which come in different shades and styles and priced between P100 to P300, are lightweight in feel.
Paula admits she initially wanted to name her accessories “EDSA” but reverted back to Scribbles realizing it could be confusing for most people.
She put up Piesa about a year ago, initially selling custom-printed shoes until she realized that her heart is more into making fashion accessories, which she started focusing on months ago. She re-invested around P5,000 and says she recovered all of it after three months.
Working with intricate pieces (hence, the name Piesa to mean piyesa or pieces), she says, takes a lot of patience and dedication.
“I can make something creative and unique out of little pieces,” she says, describing how she named her business.
